The adult guardianship system is scheduled to come into effect this coming July 2013 for supporting adults who need protection due to insufficient ability to judge, and for helping them run an ordinary daily life. Since the new system will be introduced in a few months, it is now very important to grasp, in advance, the potential difficulties or expected problems that may occur in the interpretation and actual implementation of the system. As Japan and Korea have many similarities in social and cultural environment as well as in overall schemes of the adult guardianship system, including the types of guardianship, understanding and over viewing the actual condition of Japanese system will give us very significant implications. Therefore, this study delves into the current status of the Japan`s adult guardianship system and several problems occurred in the implementation process, and this review will draw out meaningful suggestions to complement Korean adult guardianship system, both law/institution and administration.
